The worst weather yet in Peniche

Since early morning the rain and wind hasn’t stopped. During the night the wind was very bad. I go to Baleal car park. I met a couple from Falmouth. Their A reg transporter isn’t going so well. Jim says a large patch of filler he put in the side has started to crack off. He thinks it might break off. He has put some gaffer tap across the crack.

Jim says a large patch of filler he put in the side has started to crack off. He thinks it might break off. He has put some gaffer tap across the crack. It also sounds like the engine has a few problems. He says they have breakdown cover, so as long as they get down the coast a bit he can always have it recovered home and he won’t mind too much. James and Kate give us all banana pancakes. They really are nice. I hope to see them again down the coast. Kate was well impressed with the Pampy camper.

I chat to the Spanish guy from the motorhome again. He and his mate, who I don’t think speaks English, are from Menorca. They are taking a look in the town today. I notice them take a surf later.

I take a surf at about 3pm. The rain is lashing down, and the north end of Baleal is quiet. Lagide is looking very big with people taking lots of wipe outs. The surf is reasonable, with the wind being very strong. I get hit in the chin with my board when the wind throws it up. I get bashed on a few waves. Getting out is a mission, with the board acting like a massive sale. I nearly loose it at one point. I get back in the van, and the floor gets soaked and my trousers absorb loads of water, shit! My other trousers are soaking on the washing line at the campsite.

I really hope the weather sorts itself out. There really isn’t much else to do. I have got used to passing the time now. I can pretty much lose a whole day without thinking about it, but that’s not what I am here for. Maybe tomorrow I will try the local village of Obidos, which is supposed to be nice.
