Earlier today I worked out how much money I have to spend on travelling. James said he surfed in Mexico and Costa Rica. I am very tempted to spend several months surfing in Mexico before going to South America.
I also want to take a trip to Germany, Czech Republic, Russia, Finland, Sweden and Norway before going to the Americas. I would just visit the capitals and maybe take a small trip in Norway. I hope to do this before going to the Americas, and think I can do this for £1,000.
I have also thought about how much time I can spend here in Portugal. I would love to spend the winter in the south, surfing in the warm weather. I have worked out that I can live for £100 a week in the van. My funds will last until November. If I reserve £2,000 of my funds I can stay here from November until April, when I can think about going back to the UK. Going back before then does not seem attractive.
I have also thought about trying to secure some work in the Algarve. I hadn’t intended to visit the ex-pat or touristy areas, but I have thought about trying to get some work there. Maybe it is possible to work in an ex-pat area, and travel to good surf spots. In the shower I thought about providing IT services to ex-pats. I am sure many would like to deal with an Englishman. I have also thought about scrubbing pans, or working on a campsite. There is a big marina in the Algarve, and of course Gibraltar, so maybe some crewing work is available. We’ll see what happens.
