    Thanks Darren,
    I live in

    Thanks Darren,

I live in Hove, have on street parking which is ample (loads of people have vans where I live so thats not a issue) – yes you are right about the time I think I would have to buy one or it would not happen. In terms of size, i’m open to suggestions – probably would not want something MASSIVE, enough to get the 4 of us plus dog so any recommendations would be awesome! I just don’t know where to start!

OK, so you need something that you can park on a street in Hove. So a motorhome isn’t really ideal, because they are quite wide and not the best thing to park on the streets of Hove. However, a motorhome might be your only option to a vehicle that seat and sleeps your family.

So you need to be able to sleep 2 adults and 2 small’ish children. Assuming you want to keep the van for say 10 years, so you need to be able to sleep a 14 year old and 12 year old.

You also need 4 seats with seat belts.

I assume you are going to stay on campsites. So a shower is not a priority in the van, as you can use the campsite facilities.
Here are some recommendations of vans that I can see in your price range. Have a look at these, so you can get an idea of what you can buy.

Motorhomes – these offer the most space, but are bigger so are harder to park.

Campervans – smaller, so less space inside, but easier to park

Old VW campervans look great and are cool, but they are not a great choice for you, as they are expensive to buy, due to popularity, use old technology and can be expensive to run.

I done the whole package now, so this is my advice 🙂

1)I have converted a modern 06 transit semi roof diesel van total costs 18k now worth 10k 3 years later.

    2) I have converted a Renault 54 plate diesel van (just) swapped it for a type 25, so unsure of the value but the full package cost me £4.5K. She owned it for 7 years but wanted to do more travelling so need the MPG, she was retired on her own.

3)I have dealt with the DVLA and insurance, once you change anything the insurance become difficult and if you get cheap insurance with a leisure company which insures campers they become limited and the insurance isnt that cheap for the usage you are allowed. Lastly the value of a self convert or converted by a small company the value isnt great either on resale value. I have learned a lot over the years.

    4) I have owned two type 2 air cooled VW,s now I own two campers (one must go) when I can make my mind up, One is a VW Transporter type 4 high roof (Richard Holdsworth conversation) 1991 1968cc petrol engine, fuel injection and the other VW Type 25 Reimo Conversation 1990 model none fuel injection 1915cc petrol engine with 4 berth with a pop up roof. Both are in good nick and both different vans, I keep asking people which one to choose its a bout 50-50 at the moment.

    5) My point, well if you take everything into account, time, hassle, production, insurance, meeting the requirement, your explanation, family, budget and most importantly the resale costs, then for me there is only one option what will suit your needs. I would go for a type VW type 25 with a water cool engine with the option of going LPG later if you love the life style. Pop up roof style too with a big converter like mine, bought privately with a good body. If you can wait later in the year (winter with 8k then I would go for a big converter name for a VW type 4 again petrol with the option to go LPG later. Petrol are cheaper to buy, but if you do the miles then LPG it later that between a thousand pounds.

Most say to me, you have more fun in the VW type 25, but most liked the VW T4 Better if its going to be everyday use too.

I hope this helps, I would certainly go for the life style is will be worth it, I wish I done it earlier. But time and money stopped me because I lived a away from my family and now my kids are older I missed the boat.

    Camping options
I done the whole package now, so this is my advice 🙂

1)I have converted a modern 06 transit semi roof diesel van total costs 18k now worth 10k 3 years later.

    2) I have converted a Renault 54 plate diesel van (just) swapped it for a type 25, so unsure of the value but the full package cost me £4.5K. She owned it for 7 years but wanted to do more travelling so need the MPG, she was retired on her own.

    I personally wouldn’t get
I personally wouldn’t get anything with a petrol engine…diesel in my humble opinion is the one to settle for.
Wanderer…How did you manage to spend 18k on an 06 transit? I have owned my 06 LWB high top for 3.5 years and it only cost me 6.5k to buy back then…Conversion is going to end up around £1500.
