Cheers Darren. Will get on
Cheers Darren. Will get on and order some stuff.
Going to get this 300w inverter http://www.toolstation.com/shop/Electrical/Extension+Leads+RCDs/Power+Inverter+300w/d190/sd2470/p18128
Can I cut off the crocodile clips and connect the cables straight onto the leisure battery? If yes what do I use?
Also do you know of a cheap battery charger so I can charge from mains when on sites?June 13, 2012 at 11:53 am #124769Si’s PrimastarParticipantCheers Darren. Will get on

That’s a well priced inverter. Looks like the one that I’ve got, just with a different label.
You can cut the crocodile clips off. You’ll need some battery terminals for your leisure battery. I got some like this:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Pair-Of-Battery-Connector-Terminal-Clamps-Traditional-Style-Universal-Fit-/400302587811?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item5d33e4bfa3#ht_1636wt_922You can see on the ends where you can screw cables down. You can put the inverter cables in there.
I don’t know of a good cheap charger. The CTEK ones are good, but not cheap. Get a leisure battery charger, as they are better for the battery.
These look promising however

If you buy a VSR (Voltage sensing relay), then you need one wire from the engine battery to the relay, one wire from the leisure battery, and one from the relay to the vehicle chassis (or bodywork). It will let the alternator charge the leisure battery when the engine is running, but will not allow the engine battery to be discharged when using the electrics in the living section of the van. Simplest way and most efficient way to do it.June 16, 2012 at 8:06 pm #124781julie notleyGuestbattery charging

Sorry i am back again with more questions!!
Relay arrived this morning (the one you linked). 16mm2 cable seems really big to fit into terminals on the relay?! What cable did you use from van battery to relay and relay to leisure battery? Do you have a link?
Also do i need an earth cable from van battery to relay and from leisure battery to chassis? Link?
Cheers Darren. Hopefully will get it cracked soon!!June 18, 2012 at 11:45 am #124790Si’s PrimastarParticipantSorry i am back again with
