Thanks Darren. I already have
Thanks Darren. I already have a small fridge which I was hoping to use. It has 12v lighter adapter but I was going to run it off a 240v socket. The fridge is 12v 60 watt so I hope a 110ah battery will keep it running for a fair while!?
With the 12v fuse box you recommend, how do i get from this to a 240v socket?
Also what cable from leisure battery to fuse?
Is this setup correct –
Van battery – split charge relay – 16mm2 cable – 100amp fuse(can you reccomend?) – 16mm2 cable – leisure battery – ???? – 12v fuse box – ???? – 240v socket.
Thanks again for your time. Hope to get sorted in the next few weeks then set off somewhere hot!June 12, 2012 at 10:27 am #124739Si’s PrimastarParticipantThanks Darren. I already have

“It has 12v lighter
Hi Si“It has 12v lighter adapter but I was going to run it off a 240v socket.”
Does your fridge run on 240v as well as 12v?“The fridge is 12v 60 watt so I hope a 110ah battery will keep it running for a fair while!?”
A couple of days. My fridge is 40W (i think) and it lasts 3 days on a 110 AH battery.“With the 12v fuse box you recommend, how do i get from this to a 240v socket?”
The only way of going from 12v to 240v is with an inverter. They come with thick leads and crocodile clips that I would recommend you connect straight to your leisure battery terminals. Don’t put it through the fuse box.“Also what cable from leisure battery to fuse?”
About 10mm, or 8mm should be OK.“Van battery – split charge relay – 16mm2 cable – 100amp fuse(can you reccomend?) – 16mm2 cable – leisure battery – ???? – 12v fuse box – ???? – 240v socket.”
With my recommendations that would be:
Van battery – split charge relay – 16mm2 cable – 100amp fuse(can you reccomend?) – 16mm2 cable – leisure battery – 10mm2 cable – 12v fuse box –
However, you can’t go from the fuse box to 240v. 240v has to come from an inverter run from the leisure battery, or 240v hookup from the mains.
For a battery fuse megafuse is the best option:

Thanks for the quick reply. Yes my fridge is also 240v.
So no need for fuse box.
Setup – Van battery – Split charge relay – 16mm2 cable – 100amp fuse – 16mm2 cable – leisure battery – inverter – fridge.
Does that sound right now??
Will probably but 2 way extension lead on so can charge phone/laptop at same time. I could also use a rcd to make sure its safe. http://www.toolstation.com/shop/RCD+Adaptor/p12514
Now just to throw something else into the mix – As I will be using the van for work (builder) between trips could I do away with the 100amp fuse and put one of these in its place? http://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Products/CGMSF100.html
When working I do not need to use the leisure battery so I can switch the charge off when not required therefore saving my vans alternator. I will switch on occasionally to keep the leisure battery fresh.
One other thing, what type and where to buy a leisure battery from??
Top man Darren. Thanks for help. Would be totally lost without this website!!June 12, 2012 at 4:32 pm #124749Si’s PrimastarParticipantThanks for the quick reply.

If you don’t need 12v
Hi SiIf you don’t need 12v then your setup above is fine.
That fuse you mention is a 240v 100a fuse, and you need 12v 100a fuse.
Yep, you can disconnect the leisure battery to save the alternator. You can simply remove the fuse between the batteries (the 100 amp one) or put in a switch like this:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Battery-Cut-Off-Switch-100Amp-/200774226266?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item2ebf13915aI would go to a car battery centre and see what they have. They’re normally the cheapest place. Don’t worry about the brand as you are not using it very much.
Go for a 100AH or 110AH. Avon seem to be the cheapest, about £90.Thanks, glad you like the site 🙂

Cheers Darren. Will get on and order some stuff.
Going to get this 300w inverter http://www.toolstation.com/shop/Electrical/Extension+Leads+RCDs/Power+Inverter+300w/d190/sd2470/p18128
Can I cut off the crocodile clips and connect the cables straight onto the leisure battery? If yes what do I use?
Also do you know of a cheap battery charger so I can charge from mains when on sites? - AuthorPosts
