San Vincente de la Barquera, check up at Comillas, Torrelavega and Santillana del Mar

I get up early and drive to Comillas. I park up and go to the medical centre. The receptionist recognises me and makes me an appointment. I have to wait 30 minutes, so I take a walk into town. I buy an English newspaper, which costs €3! I go back to the medical centre and don’t have to wait long before a doctor calls my name. The doctor doesn’t speak any English.

Everything is alright and healing OK. The doctor says to return on Monday. I grab some supplies from the supermarket and drive back to the beach car park at San Vincente de la Barquera.

I can’t decide what to do. I need to fill several days but I don’t want to go too far, as I’ll just have to come back on myself. A few days drinking in Santander or San Sebastian is very tempting, but I cannot drink with my medication. I decide to drive to the biggest town in the area. I could do with a new sleeping bag.

I drive to Torrelavega. I park up and take a walk around town. There are quite a few shops but no camping shop. I stock up at a big supermarket. They have a few different types of blankets, from fleeces to duvets. I’d rather get a sleeping bag, as I need a new one, so don’t get anything.

I still can’t decide what to do. I head for San Vincente de la Barquera as I want to get to a campsite before they start closing. I pass a sign for Santillana del Mar, I remember that the campsite there is good. I drive there instead and check in.
