No surf so onto Zarautz

It is cold in the morning. Probably 15 degrees, but this seems cold to me now. On several occasions (including as I write this) I wear jeans in 25 degree heat. I am acclimatising. I walk to Orio beach to check the surf. It is flat. The forecast was for strong waves. I do my normal jobs and check out of the campsite.

I drive into Zarautz, which is just 5 km’s away.

I drive into Zarautz, which is just 5 km’s away. I park up and take a walk down the beach. It is big and lovely. Zarautz is a nice town. It has an old quarter, with narrow streets. There are many apartment blocks leading away from the town centre and beach. This is another town where I think I could live. There is still a lifeguard on patrol on the still busy beach. The weather is warm now, and many people are sunning themselves.

I find the tourist information office and ask about an English speaking doctor for my neck. The guy there does not think there will be an English speaking doctor at the medical centre, but says I can try, as there may be English speaking nurses. If my neck is still bad tomorrow I will go.

The surf has not shown up as expected. I walk for quite a while, deciding what to do. I take a drive to the nearby beach of Playa de Gaztetape. The drive there along the mountain road is breathtaking. The whole area is breathtaking. The beach there has a little more swell, but the beach is smaller. I am not looking for crowds. I decide to try and get in the campsite in Zarautz. I the hope that the swell will come tomorrow. I drive up the mountain back towards Orio. I find the campsite. I get shown to a plot with the most amazing view, definitely the best I have had yet. I can see the surf perfectly from here. It looks as though the swell has increased very slightly. I will keep checking from my perfect vantage point.
