I get ready to move on in the morning. John appears and talks to me even as I am about to pull away. I am starting to dislike him. The bay has a little more swell, but is pretty flat. I am keen to explore the south coast, as a big storm is coming, followed by big swell.
I stop a Luz, but there is the same swell here. I carry on to Zavial, but it is the same there. I drive to Sagres. I stop up at the main headland, by the Fortaleza. The views are great and there are several campervans and motorhomes there. The swell is bashing the west coast, and the winds are onshore. I take a drive around the town, which is small. I am able to get a couple of WiFi signals, but neither work. I go back to the headland. I notice a free camping spot I hadn’t seen before. I see the van of the Belgian guy from Ericeira.
I drive down to the spot. Loads of other vans arrive after, and it is crowded. I get chatting to a few people. I talk to a guy from Cornwall, who has an impressive collection of fish which he has caught and is trying to give away. He is off to the Alps soon to get a skiing job. I am jealous. I consider it briefly, but decided I want to stay here to improve my surfing. I wonder how bad the winter days will be? The guys from Devon, who I met in Ancora are here, but I don’t chat to them tonight. I’ll save that for tomorrow. Some people have headed towards Lagos to get some protection from the storm. Tomorrow will be rough. I hope the following day I can surf here on the south coast.
