Etxarri Aranatz, Navarra to San Vicente de la Barquera, Cantabria, Spain

It’s a cold and rainy morning, which I hoped it wouldn’t be. I shower, have a hearty breakfast of pancakes and hit the road. The roads are mainly big, but I do take a few smaller roads through the beautiful mountains. I pass several big cities, including Santander.

Once in San Vicente de la Barquera one of the first things I see is Steve’s van, parked in the main car park. He is not there, so I head to the beach. I thought free camping might have been stopped at the site, but there are several campervans there. I pull up and relax. I intend to stay in this area for the next 6 weeks, until I go home.

In the afternoon Steve comes over and says hello. The weather clears up quite a bit. Although Steve says the water is warm, I decline a surf; hopefully tomorrow I will get back in the water.
