Brugge to Brussels, Belgium

I leave the van in the campsite car park and walk into Brugge. The city is very quaint. The guide book says this is a little false as the town was rebuilt, but it’s a lovely place. Definitely worth the visit. The buildings and streets look great. It’s busy, but easy going. I climb to the top of the Belfry tower.

Definitely worth the visit. The buildings and streets look great. It’s busy, but easy going. I climb to the top of the Belfry tower. I see Michelangelo’s ‘Madonna with Christ’ statue in a Cathedral, and walk the streets, taking in a little undisturbed village. I stop for coffee and head back to the campsite. I buy praline in a market stall which is fantastic. So good that I realise I make a face each time I eat it. I have yet to try Belgian beer and fries.

I have trouble deciding whether to drive to Antwerp, and then onto southern Netherlands, or turn now and head down to Brussels. The guide book paints Antwerp as somewhere I can miss, so I drive to a campsite just outside of Brussels. It’s a very basic campsite, but only costs €5. I sort the van out, rearranging and fixing a few things. I’m slowly getting things into their best places. I have a quick walk around the village, but it doesn’t take long. Tomorrow I’ll head into Brussels, and then probably hit the road for Paris.
