A View of Africa, Andalucia, Spain

It’s fairly windy in El Palmar this morning, just like I remember it 5 years ago. But, just like 5 years ago, it’s sunny and warm.
We work the morning, and decide to hit the road before having lunch. Tomorrow we plan to visit Gibraltar, and want to be there early. So we plan on heading south this afternoon and finding somewhere to wild camp.

We work the morning, and decide to hit the road before having lunch. Tomorrow we plan to visit Gibraltar, and want to be there early. So we plan on heading south this afternoon and finding somewhere to wild camp.

We get on the road, and and awed by the amazing views Andalucia still offers us. We pass through an amazing field of wind turbines. The turbines are spread across endless fields and hills, towards the mountains and towards the sea. It’s a beautiful site considering it’s so unnatural.

As we near Tarifa we sea (what seems like) hundreds of kite surfers whizzing up and down the beach. There are also dozens (or hundreds) or campevans spread out across the dunes behind them.

The continue to Tarifa town, and stop by the beach for lunch. It’s so windy we eat and get back to the van. We saw several vans camping on the many dirt patches around the town. But we’re keen to see Africa at the lookout (although we can see the shadow of Africa in the distance).

The roads get windy and the hills get hillier, and then as we near the end of Spain Africa comes into view. We stop at the headland and enjoy the views across the water.

We continue towards Gibraltar, with the intention of wild camping there, or going to the campsite at La Linea if it doesn’t feel safe. We find the big dirt car park in front of the border still vacant and with several motorhomes camping there. We join them. I chat with a German couple and they say they have been there for three days without any problems. So we decide to stay.
