Vila Nova de Milfontes – preparing the van for a new solar panel

I spend the day down by the river at Vila Nova. I am intending on spending a few days here without moving. I have enough supplies to last me 2 days, then I’ll run out of drinking water. Food wise I have enough for a week probably.

In the morning the weather is good and I get to work doing the preliminaries for the fitting of my new solar panel.

In the morning the weather is good and I get to work doing the preliminaries for the fitting of my new solar panel. I drill a hole in the roof, for the wire to pass through. It takes a bit of work, but the drilling is fairly easy considering I am doing it with a hand drill. I get the wires in place, and attach the regulator to the batteries. This takes quite a bit of work as the electrics are hidden away in the van. I notice that on some of the fuses the plastic surrounding has melted. The fuses are fine though. I replace them. I think it is because they are cheap fuses. With the wire and regulator in place I just need to mount the solar panel and attach it. I have already prepared the panel and mounting brackets, by drilling the necessary holes. Although the morning is rain free the wind is increasing, and I do not fancy having the panel flapping about on the roof, or me. I decide to leave it until tomorrow. Whilst I finishing adding some silicon around where the wire enters the van roof it starts to rain. Good timing!

I spend the afternoon and evening not doing much at all, watching DVD’s mainly.
