Tips around Europe
Hi LauraWe travelled around Europe in the off-season visiting many of the places you have mentioned. I ran a blog which you can link to via http://cally136.blogspot.co.uk/2012/09/introduction.html
The site currently runs from most recent post to historic so may be confusing.
We used a … sort of knew where we were headed and which countries we wanted to visit, then determined the time of year … particularly when travelling in the winter then tried to sort out language guides and legal requirements (especially not mentioned the road tolls and motorway permits in Austria and the Chech Republic). Also another good hint is to make sure you have up to date Sat Nav software because Italy, Spain and Portugal have done major roadwork improvements in the past three years.
Happy to give tips etc … we took a right-hand drive vehicle through Europe which was not without its problems.
Cheers

cally136ParticipantBuying Camper in UK/Europe
There are a number of ways to purchase a camper van but my questions to you would be:1. What is your proposed route?
2. How much time do you expect to spend in the UK?
3. Are you intending to resell and if so where? We’re resident in the UK so expect to use our van here a lot so purchased privately via http://www.preloved.co.uk – The young Kiwi’s we met in Pompeii had friends in London so they organised the purchase of their vehicle privately. E-bay is okay but its a big machine. Smaller sites such as http://www.gumtree.com/campervans-motorhomes/uk and the specific camper/caravan sites such as http://motorhomes.autotrader.co.uk probably better. It’s easier to exchange emails and make offer using non-E-bay sites.
The older couple we met in Chertsy (near Twichenham) bought their van new and exported to back to NZ. They used a dealer.
HOWEVER, if you intend spending most of your time in Europe, we know an Aussie couple who bought in the Nederlands and found they were able to sell the van when they finished their tour.
You can drive either left or right hand drive through-out the UK and Europe so its neither here-nor-there but it can cause problems with overtaking especially large trucks etc if the driver is located on the curbside of the road. Personal preference.
Glad to exchange tips and answer any of your questions.
Regards
Billie
