Hi everyone
Only just joined this forum and very interested in the postings on above topic
We have converted a Ford Transit SWB, low roof, into a basic campervan, meeting the requirements for storage/bed/funiture/cooking. We had the windows, roof light, hook up, leisure battery and diesel heater done professionally and installed the rest ourselves.
We recently applied for the van description to be changed from panel van to motor home, to be told by DVLA that as the van still looks more like a panel van than a motor home, they can only describe it as a panel van with side windows.
Having retired last year, and having recently completed a 7000 mile, 6 month long trip around Europe in the van, we are a bit bemused by the DVLA’s thinking, and look forward to hearing how this issue plays out.
Presumably companies that specialise in converting vans into motor homes will have something to say on the subject
