I was really alarmed to read Blogs by Freddie and Rob. My van is complete now and I am just about to apply to DVLA. If they are refusing to change class to Camper Van because this might cause confusion to police officers or other officials, I am wondering if a simple way around may be found. For instance Change the Class to read “Van Conversion – Camper” or something similar.
That way a police officer stopping the vehicle would know he is not dealing with a van as it left the factory or a purpose built camper and can identify it then as a converted vehicle.
I think this would resolve any issues with identification of the vehicle and avoid massive inconvenience to self builders like myself and others.
