French food

French food is one of the highlights of visiting France. Patisserie sell lovely pastries such as pain au chocolat, buttery croissants, and lots of other things. Try the quiches. From the delicatessen try cheeses like camembert and brie, meats such as ham and salami. Baguettes are of course everywhere. France has a great selection of seafood, with mussels and chips being a national favourite and available everywhere. Crepes are available in many places with a great selection of toppings. French food and wine is surely amongst some of the finest in the world. The freshness and quality of the raw ingredients right through to finished dishes is excellent. Eating out is quite expensive.

Budget food ideas

Fresh baguettes filled with ingredients such as ham, cheese and tomatoes make excellent snacks and meals. French fruit is also excellent, particularly the grapes. Bakeries sell a great range of things from Quiches to pastries. All are fresh and very tasty.

Wine

French wine is excellent. You can save up to half the shop price by buying bottles from the producer directly, from the chateaux or vineyard.

Beer and larger

French beers and larger’s are nothing special. You may know some varieties. It is worth experimenting.

Supermarkets

French supermarkets are amongst some of the best in Europe, and the world. Larger supermarkets sell a massive range of things, including electrical goods, car accessories and parts and even some camping gear. Most urban areas have good large supermarkets.
