Cyprus

Cyprus is a beautiful island, and a great place to visit. Cyprus is currently politically and physically divided. The island is split and has a Greek and a Turkish side. Cyprus is very peaceful, and has very little crime.

When to visit

Cyprus has an all year round tourist industry.
Spring (March to May) – a great time to visit the island. The weather is warm, crowds low and the wild flowers appear.
Summer (June to September ) – very hot, some crowds, cooler in the mountains.
Autumn (Sep – Nov) – like spring, warm and fewer people.
Winter (Dec – Feb) – cooler, but has winter sports in the mountains. On the coast it’s sunshine with spells of rain at times.

Ferries to Cyprus

From Greece: there is currently no ferry service from Greece to Cyprus. This is believed to be because of political problems in the region.
From Turkey: there are 2 services. Tasucu (Silifke) to Girne (Kyrenia) about four hours, daily. Mersin to Famagusta About ten hours every other day. See the ferry guide.

Driving in Cyprus

Roads are generally good across the island, especially on main routes to towns and resorts. Some minor roads are of poor condition, and care should be taken when using minor roads. Motorhomes and other large vehicles should not be taken to historic towns such as Limassol, Larnaca, Paphos and Nicosia. The streets are too narrow for such vehicles. Vehicles can not be taken from the Greek part to the Turkish part. You can only visit the Turkish part on foot for the day. Fuel is easily available and relatively cheap.

Supplies in Cyprus

Banks are in all major towns and resorts.
L.P.G. is not available for vehicles. Campingaz is available.
Supermarkets are plentiful and open on Saturdays.

Camping in Cyprus

Cyprus is great for free camping. We have listed some locations below. There are a few campsites on the island also.

Free camping in Cyprus

There are lots of good places to free camp in Cyprus. Many people free camp in the winter with no problems at all. In the winter months (Oct.-April) you will be restricted to the coastal regions because of the cold weather in the mountains. Free camping is generally not tolerated during the peak months. At present Cyprus is not a popular destination for winter motor caravanning, and you’re unlikely to see many others. It is very peaceful. There is very little crime on the island.
