The two fixed single bunks are ideal if you’ve got kids (or adults, the bunks are 6’3″long) …no messing about reconfiguring everything!
and then not being able to carry on with your adult evening.
In fact the whole thing is specifically designed for a family of four (though it’ll sleep six!)
The 2.8litre turbo diesel puts out 152bhp and coupled with the six speed box, make it drive like a car, and still return between 27 and 29 to the gallon.
It’s done 73,000 since 2000. (nothing for this engine)
It’s long but not too wide for the Cornish lanes it lives in at the moment.
There is a reversing camera which makes backing up into a Tesco parking space a snap!
Anyhow… now you’ve found your site and parked… oops no lecy! no prob switch on the inverter and presto…. 230volt lighting and plenty of socket outlets for dvd players and games. Doble ooops!…… no water… also no prob, the two 70 litre belly tanks can be used in the galley and the shower room and fold down basin, and as long as you’ve got gas, the water can be hot.
The water pump is 12v as is the flush for the loo.
If you’ve got water and electric on site then you can run hot and cold at mains pressure and switch over to mains power whilst charging the huge gel tech leisure battery.
The decking is teak and holly and almost bullet proof, give it a wipe after the muddy feet have been through and it’s as good as new.
There’s loads of storage inside. All the cupboards are curved so no nasty corners to get in the way.
They’re all veneered in maple and give a nice warm natural feel to the interior, as does the solid beech worktop and table.
Once you put up the 3.1×3.1 meter awning the rear seats can be used as a sofa outside, and any excess baggage, bikes etc can be stored out there.
Aft of the shower/wc is what we call the generator room….. it’s got the inverter, the breaker boards, the instant water heater, the water tank valves and pump.
We go sailing from this van and we tend to use the generator room and shower as wet changing rooms and hanging space for wetsuits etc.
If it gets cold then you just fire up the blown air central heating… but not for long, as the 2″ Celotex insulation all round, and thermally insulating cassette blinds mean it stays warm for a good while.
The cooker has four burners and a grill. The microwave is also a convection oven and grill.
The sink is a reasonable size and has a pullout mixer tap.
A commercial Expelair unit provides extraction over the cooking area and also in the shower/wc.
The fridge is three way (gas 12vDC and 230vAC) i’ve only ever used it on 230v mode so dont know much about it in the other modes. No offence meant to t4/5 owners… but it’s really nice to be able to stand up! and the price for a vw is way too much for what they are!
