Hi there. If one is planning to travel a lot around Europe, is there any way of getting an MOT abroad to avoid having to come back every 12 months. I’ve seen this asked on the forums but no one has answered it yet?
    Cheers. Steve

The answer to that is a plain
The answer to that is a plain NO!
If you car is French, you are subject to the “Controle technique” and spain has it’s own test (Can’t remember it’s name).
If you continue to drive abroad without an MOT it is possible that in the event of an accident your insurance company would not pay out, as you have not adhered to the regulations placed by the country issuing the number plate….ie UK.
If you are going to leave these shores for a very long period, it may also be worth checking with your insurance company to ensure you are fully covered for the full term abroad.
If you let your MOT/tax run out whilst abroad, you could have your vehicle impounded by the old bill as you drive out the docks as it’s poss to be caught on ANPR as “no taX or MOT and you need a valid insurance cert and MOT to tax it.(Gone are the days when a tax disc looked like a guiness label or you could put “tax in post” in the screen). Now You just have your vehicle taken off you there and then and you walk home!

As Roadster says, it is not
As Roadster says, it is not possible to get an MOT outside of Great Briton.
The MOT in Gibraltar is different and does not apply.
You either have to return the vehicle to GB for an MOT each year, or export the vehicle from GB and import it into whatever country you wish to be resident in.

If you intend to travel a lot around Europe, time you travels to visit the UK in the summer and get the MOT then.
