Laws in the U.S. on camper vans, seatbelts, regulations?

Is there any resources that you all know of on laws on self-converted van-campers?

Like seatbelt regulations?

For exxample, I want to buy a large van and remodel it into a camper. Instead of building a bench, table, etc, I thought I’d just have a couch in the van that is anchored securely of course. However, if there are laws against this I’d like to know about them before I start working! Anything?
