Quick Diagram I drew up for the layout of what I might do (if thumbs up given)

To the left we have the starter battery under passenger side floor:
-The negative is grounded to the chassis already (thick grey line)
-Then we’ll have 16mmsq wire running from the positive to my dual battery switch (green square), FUSED close to the starter battery (60A as recommended on switch’s instructions).
    – Dual battery switch to be attached to the metal under passenger seat, also grounded to the metal under part of passenger seat? Can it be done like this?
    – 16mmsq wire continues to another 60A fuse near the deep cycle battery, connects to the positive of Deep Cycle battery.
-Deep cycle battery negative gets grounded on metal part of passenger seat as well?

(All wiring is run underneath floor padding (yellow) as shown below in images)

    (see images)
floor padding holes in the back where cable will come through for deep cycle battery terminals

padding under which I’ll be running the cables to the deep cycle battery from starter battery bay

Metal part under passenger seat between the two batteries where I want to mount the switch
(can I ground the switch and deep cycle battery here?)

NOTE: If I can’t ground the switch and deep cycle battery on the metal part of the seat, can I ground both of them on the same nut on the chassis as the starter battery?

    Hi
    Hi

    This all looks perfect.
Yes, you can earth batteries to parts of the chassis/cab/seats. Just ensure the seats are earthed well.
Check how the seats are connected to the chassis, and ensure it’s a clean contact. If painted parts connect together, this might not be good enough.
Perhaps test with a multi meter.
You picture suggests it might be a metal strap that earths the seat? If so, that should be fine.
Great plan though, especially the dual fuses.

    testing with multimeter
I’ve tested the ground areas with a multi meter,

The meter itself reads 0.4 – 0.8 ohm when touching itself.

The starting battery negative to it’s own ground reads 0.6 – 1.2 ohm (it’s slightly dirty)
The areas I want to connect the grounds of aux battery and switch as well as inverter read from 0.8 to 1.8 ohm from the starter battery negative.

    Hi Chaps,
    Hi Chaps,

I’m in a similar sort of boat (Van) just one question. I was going to put the voltage sensitive relay / split charge diode / ‘Green Box’ on the Alternator feed to the starter battery rather than from the starter battery to the Leisure battery would that be incorrect?

    Cheers

Do you have a specific reason
Do you have a specific reason for doing that? I would definitely put the relay between the batteries.
