  3. still working on body
    Hi Darren,
Hope all is good with you,
I am still working on boby, but have mechanical probs. Bless Elsie-May is refusing to give up though. She has had to have a new water pump, starter motor, new plungs ect.. and she still has her oil allergy she keeps spitting it out. Usually at people travelling behind too close.ha!
So as you can imagine money is not flowing.
I have treated the rust not all yet and she still needs a new door. I think once I find one I should be able to fit it, do you think this is the best option or should I fill the gaps in the old door?
Did you manage to sort out putting photo’s on?
I have found some great camp sites.
Going down to Devon to the Levellers weekend in August, so hopeful will get her allergy sorted by then.

    1. Hi Selina
      I had several

      Hi Selina

I had several mechanical problems with my van before I got started. I was glad to have fixed them whilst converting the van, with my tools at hand. When travelling in Europe I had not problems at all, as everything was already addressed.

What is wrong with the door? If it is in bad shape consider getting a new one, especially if you can find a cheap used door.

You can add photos, just 1 per comment at the moment.

Are you going to the Beautiful Days festival? Have been for the last 5 years. It’s my favourite festival, but am currently living in Thailand, so won’t be going this year.

Have attached a free-camping image to check the images are working.

      Best of luck

      Darren

  4. Hi selinaguess
    Great to hear

    Hi selinaguess

Great to hear you have a camper van!
Rust is a really big problem and I would suggest getting it sorted soon, as it gets harder and more expensive to fix as time goes buy.
If you want to learn how to fix the rust yourself go for it, it’s not so hard and doesn’t cost too much, as long as the rust is just on the surface. If the floor or structure of the van is rusty it can be a expensive jon.
    Try some of these links
    http://www.wikihow.com/Remove-Rust-from-a-Car
    http://www.wikihow.com/Repair-Minor-Rust-on-a-Car
    http://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-Fix-Rust-Spots-On-a-Car/

If you aren’t up for fixing it yourself you need to get someone to do it for you. A local guy with the right tools will be able to do it a lot cheaper than a formal garage, but find someone trustworthy who has a good reputation.

Some long nosed pliers may be able to get the dipstick out, if not a local mechanic or garage who can do it for you for little money. Make sure you get a new one to replace it! Try a local breakers.

I’m working on something to add photos at the moment.

    1. Thanks for info
      Hi Darren
Thanks for the links I will give them a go. People are starting to give me names of local machanics. I am not sure how bad the rust is but there are holes in her body. I am going to try and get some quotes and look at what I can afford in the new year. Thanks again for your help, I will keep you posted on Elaie-May’s progress.
      Selina 🙂

  5. Hi All
I have just purchased a VW campervan, although she had already been converted (cheat no:1) i am working hard on her, she has been very ‘pinked up’ (sorry guys) but she is fab. The biggest problem I have is the body work she is very rusty. I have looked on many sites and have found a new door, but have you any hints on cheap ways of doing her up. The end of the dip stick has also broken off and am unable to get it out.
I am not too sure how to put photos on here but will have a look.

  9. Sorry
Hi. Sorry, don’t have too much information at the moment. The transit is a great, reliable vehicle, but watch out for rust, which is definitely their weakest point.
We have some Ford Transit information.
