Vanny

This is my VW 2.5TDi surf bus. It started it’s life with me when my dad was going to scrap it when he retired from joinery.
I started by stripping out the ply lining and sound deadened it with flashing tape.

This is my VW 2.5TDi surf bus. It started it’s life with me when my dad was going to scrap it when he retired from joinery.
I started by stripping out the ply lining and sound deadened it with flashing tape.
I then insulated it with Cellotex (same as Kingspan) with 25mm insulation on the top panels and 50mm on the lower panels before coating that with another layer of silver bubble wrap insulation. I decided to paint the original ply panels instead of carpeting the walls as i thought the carpet might hold a bit of moisture from the damp surf boards and wetsuits during the winter surf missions. I built a kitchen unit from an old VW sink (99p off ebay, a damaged Ikea Billy book case, some cupboard doors from B+Q and a pump tap again off ebay. I had an Ikea sofa bed in my spare room which slid right over the wheel arches and folded out with an inch to spare before hitting my kitchen unit. Next on the list was a wee detatchable skim board table and an electronic safe and cool box. I also fitted some LED lights a speaker and decorated it with some metal posters etc.
Externally i’ve gone for the battered old hoodride van style leaving every dent and scratch as is only lowering it 60mm, putting on some Audi anthracite alloys, clear front indicators and stickers on it.
It may not be everyones cup of tea but that’s the great thing about building your own van. It’s your own van and it’s built to fit your needs. 🙂
