Hi, nice to hear from you.
My advice would be to take your time planning what layout you want. Try and see as any other examples as you can.
I suspect all Sprinter and VW Crafters share the same wiper arms on the same year.
I just did a search on eBay and found loads for sale.
I don’t know where you are but her’s an example of a UK listing for both:
DarrenKeymasterHi
Everything you’ve ready is correct.
You can buy a rock n roll on eBay for £150 and bolt it down badly, which you wouldn’t want for any passenger.
The RIB is the only crash tested one as fas as I know.
The seat in the one you’ve shown looks high quality. You could inspect how it’s fitted to see if you are happy, but ultimately you might want a professional to check it for you.January 22, 2020 at 3:46 pm in reply to: Camper van make/model height restrictions/considerations-particularly in Europe #155495DarrenKeymasterHeight restrictions differ a fair bit.
I personally wouldn’t worry about this. I have a hi-top Sprinter and have very little problem with parking in remote (e.g. beach) carparks.
If you want to stay in more urban car parks then it might be a problem.
I have a MWB and it works perfectly for us. You can just get it in a car park space. A LWB is always a hassle.
I’d love a SWB for the drivability but like the extra space of the MWB.DarrenKeymasterHey
Nice to meet you all.
Exciting to hear of your conversion.
Are you doing the conversion yourselves?DarrenKeymasterAh yes, that is about the right sort of time to consider buying one, as the rental costs will be high, and owning your own gives you a bit more freedom to do what you want with it.
DarrenKeymasterHey
Nice to hear from you.
Great to hear about all of your adventures.DarrenKeymasterHi Anne
This sounds like a great dream. Italy is a great place to visit in a campervan.
Are you saving for a VW campervan now?DarrenKeymasterNormally the biggest concern is checking with your insurance company that they will cover you with a wood burner, so I’d recommend doing that first.
DarrenKeymasterThis website is great for finding places to stop: https://www.campercontact.com/en
This looks like a very complete book, but it’s not in English:
Nordic Camper Guide Scandinavia Current EditionUnfortunately I can’t find anything more up to date in English.
DarrenKeymasterHi Adam
Nice to hear from you.
VW T5 is a great choice, and there are a great choice as an everyday vehicle, or a second vehicle.
In terms of owning a van I would consider where you’ll park it, how many miles you’ll do and what you can do yourself in terms of maintenance, as they often need a little more TLC than a car.Cheers
Darren
DarrenKeymasterHi Lee
Great to hear you had such a good time.
What a wonderful trip.
Cornwall and Devon is a wonderful place to visit.Regards
Darren
DarrenKeymasterHi
I wouldn’t worry about it. I think you will be able to get parts almost as easily.
Japanese import models are almost always exactly the same as UK models, and I suspect the large majority of these are sold in in Europe as well, with parts being available.DarrenKeymasterHi
The bed in the Nissan conversion does not look comfy to me. I would want the cushions to make a perfectly flat bed.
Is the VW conversion going to have a rock and roll bed, and the classic VW layout?
I think the VW will have more re-sale value as well as people are more familiar with the vehicle as a camper.DarrenKeymasterNice to hear from you.
Great to hear of your new adventures, especially considering your current off grid experience.DarrenKeymasterSome of the cons are that they often have 24v electrics, which are not useful for a campervan, but this can be changed fairly easily.
Ambulances often have specialist components such as different suspension, which can be costly to fix.
Also ensure you have the appropriate license to drive a heavier vehicle. A 416 Sprinter needs a pre 1997 UK license to drive it. - AuthorPosts
