ParticipantWe are a week away from buying our first campervan and would appreciate some advice – I am an Ultra Runner and would be using it for weekends away for sleeping etc and my wife will be supporting me – We also enjoy camping and would like to get away every weekend in the camper. We just don’t know which one is the best purchase. (We have £15K to spend)
If I’m correct, the VW will hold its residual value better and the Mercedes appears to have better mechanics. Help!

the vw will defo hold its value better than the vito but if you can find a good one cheap in the first place it means you’ll get a better van for the money and if your planning on keeping it for a while may not be such a bad thing seeing as all campervans retain there value much better than an equivalently priced van or car…. be aware though the early shaped vito is terrible for rust…as for the reliabillity of the T5 …me and 4 of my mates have been running them for the last few years and none of us has had any major problems…
though at £15000 for a converted van your probably looking at late T4s which are bit more van like to drive but still a cracking vehicle…with these vans being so similiar I’d go for which ever you can get that suits you best with regarding the convertion…ie…layout/heating system/storage space.. and condition and specification of base vehicle..aircon/electric windows/mirrors….September 11, 2011 at 6:20 pm #146515jockspeed
