    Hi Guys and gals,

I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on mc4 connectors + fuses and their durability to live exposed on the roof of your van when installing solar. It feels a bit weird leaving exposed cabling on the roof even though I know they are Ip67 rated and are suppose to be weatherproof.

I have looked numerous times for some housing or a weatherproof box they could sit in however a little un-keen on having a box on the roof of the van (I know you probably wouldn’t even be able to notice it). Has anyone had any issues with Mc4 connectors failing or water getting inside?

    Thanks in advance!

    Sam

Hi, I know this is late with a response but it may help others.
pv cable is uva resistant and rodent proof which is why you should always use it.
MC4 connectors are reliable and waterproof with a maximum of 35 amps and only give trouble with internal contacts moving if disconnected puling on the pv wiring.
MC4 connectors can be cable tied under the solar panel venting gap to make them waterproof.
