ParticipantHi,
Me and my partner are in the ‘planning stage’ of our Europe trip, which should be starting in May. He is keen to get the ferry across to Holland and i’m keen to start off in France. Which would people recommend? I’ve heard it might be slightly more pricey to get a ferry Holland, but not sure if this is the case..

The Dutch ferry is almost always more expensive, but it is a great way to start the trip. It depends on your plans, route and preferences really.March 21, 2013 at 8:37 am #119166Darren

We are aiming to head towards Portugal then around the coast clockwise to Spain. Thus my idea of starting in France. Thinking Calais is a good starting point, as good place to stock up the van. Is there a good website to get an idea of ferry costs? Some sort of Ferry comparison website.March 21, 2013 at 8:52 am #119172Amy_Perkins

http://www.aferry.co.uk/ is a comparison siteI always take the Dover – Dunkirk route, as it’s almost always the cheapest, and you don’t have to drive through Calais at the other end.

We don’t use ferries. We only use the tunnel and always travel at daft oclock at night to get cheap rates. By the time you’ve opened a pack of sandwiches and a drink, you’ve arrived. You drive straight out the carriage and onto the motorway, as you clear customs this side, so no hold up that side.
I’m unsure why you would want to go to Holland for a trip around Portugal & Spain.March 21, 2013 at 6:54 pm #119188mgroadster
