Hi, I am new to all this – plan to tour the UK and rest of Europe for about 8 weeks next year. Would love to buy a campervan/motorhome, rather than rent one but can do with some advise please.
Renting would cost about £3000 for the time – would I be able to buy anything reliable in the UK for that price? Any suggestions on make and websites to explore welcome
I am not looking for something that will let us down along the ways as this would be our primary home for the time, also any suggestions on someone/agency in the UK I can trust to have a look at the vehicle before we buy?
Any do’s and dont’s I need to look out for. Looking forward to be part of this and share our experiences.

You can buy a campervan
HiYou can buy a campervan for that price. It wont be as nice as the vehicle you would get when renting.
Would you prefer a campervan or a motorhome? Or are you indifferent?

Dear DarrenThank you for your response – That’s just the problem – my husband and myself, British citizens, are in South Africa at the moment – so a challenge to do when you are not there to research and see first hand. We agreed that renting will be cheaper, and less risky but we are looking at buying because we thought we can store and return in Europe to do a few more trips in the future.
Campervan or motorhome? Don’t know enough to make an informed decision yet.
We were hoping someone who is part of a group like this and experienced might be able to give pointers – did read some of the Guides and keep on reading and learningOctober 7, 2012 at 12:05 pm #121385HeksieParticipantRenting or Buying

If you want to stay close to your £3,000 budget then I think you need to stick with a campervan, as motorhomes tend to be more expensive. Also I would not worry too much about the make or model considering your budget. Here are some examples of vehicles I would look at for your budget. In each I have selected a vehicle that is in good condition, a good price, and where the vehicle has been maintained well:
