Greetings, we have been planning to buy a camper van for a while, and next spring it looks like its going to happen. IN a month we are renting a van for the first time (a T5), and have booked a couple of nights on a site in Devon. One thing has been puzzling me – what happens to your pitch if you need to go out in the van during your stay and empty pitch was you have nothing to leave on the pitch? Years ago when we camped, an empty pitch was fair game, but is that still the case? Do the site managers know which sites are occupied all the time? Or do I have to leave my wife there in a deckchair or similar?

This depends on whether the campsite allocate pitches or not.
If they do, they will not allocate your pitch to someone else.
If pitches are not allocated, someone might take your pitch.
We normally leave our camping chairs and table on the pitch to show we will be back.
