VW Campervan vs Mercedes Campervan
We are a week away from buying our first campervan and would appreciate some advice - I am an Ultra Runner and would be using it for weekends away for sleeping etc and my wife will be supporting me - We also enjoy camping and would like to get away every weekend in the camper. We just don't know which one is the best purchase. (We have £15K to spend)
If I'm correct, the VW will hold its residual value better and the Mercedes appears to have better mechanics. Help!
Thanks Jockpeed that's helpful may have to strength my budget lol!
Afraid I'm jumping into bed with the Merc.
one thing to consider is there are far more converted VWs than vitos so there are far more after market parts about ..bike racks and the like... plus more info on forums/local meets/rallys and stuff.....unfortunately as I've mentioned before on here the prices are mental just now for them .. :(
Aaaahhh, I thought you were talking about a Merc sprinter, not a Vito.
Hi there, I have no view on what camper is better but just to throw my pennies worth into the mix my parents have asked me to sell their 54 plate Mercedes Vito that is Reimo fitted as they are just getting to the point of not being able to travel as far.
I know they are looking for around £16k for it and I have no idea if you are still looking but I know that it is in very good condition and they still take it out weekly at the moment.
If you are still looking then drop me an email and I could give you some pics and some information.
If you decided on the VW then nevermind and happy camping!
Lucy
Do yo still have the Vito, f so could you send me pis and details?
Thanks
I've been told by a few people to not bother with Vito's. One friend's words.."great for going fast but that's about it"
I run comfort you want and also you would like your good lady to be comfortable too. You should get a great VW T4 for it it. I know someone on here bought a VW T4 2.4 Diesel a Richard Holdworth Conversation. With the Rock and Roll bed, mine is the same van high roof but with too single beds, mine is a petrol engine with 58k on the clock. My is in excellent nick and so is the other blokes. Both of us are really pleased with it. The best thing our VW dubs with not go down because we went with big converters. I have already been offered 3k more then I paid for it. But Hero not for sale :)
Stay comfy and rest well that my advice
John :)
i think wanderer is on about mine we never set out to get a vw but are so pleased with it we love it, its very well thought out and lovely to drive i wouldn't say drove like an old work van im in the building trade and have drove dozens of vans so would know and also if you look on some of the vw forums a lot of people think the t4's are more reliable than the t5's so getting a late t4 might not be such a bad thing and like someone said theres loads of after market parts so you can always buy what you want to make it suit you

Camper Van Life is brought to you by Darren Lambert, a big fan of camper vans.
the vw will defo hold its value better than the vito but if you can find a good one cheap in the first place it means you'll get a better van for the money and if your planning on keeping it for a while may not be such a bad thing seeing as all campervans retain there value much better than an equivalently priced van or car.... be aware though the early shaped vito is terrible for rust...as for the reliabillity of the T5 ...me and 4 of my mates have been running them for the last few years and none of us has had any major problems...
though at £15000 for a converted van your probably looking at late T4s which are bit more van like to drive but still a cracking vehicle...with these vans being so similiar I'd go for which ever you can get that suits you best with regarding the convertion...ie...layout/heating system/storage space.. and condition and specification of base vehicle..aircon/electric windows/mirrors....
