So much to plan - where to start?!

Hi,

No van yet, just the desire to get one, and get on the road! :-) Have been looking for blogs written about families who are travelling / have travelled around Europe, but can't find any. Is it that I'm looking in the wrong place, or is it that I'm crazy considering such a thing?!

Hoping to head off next year, with our then 3 year old and 7 year old, in a camper or small motorhome, all over Europe and Morocco for as long as it takes. Remember so many great vw camper van holidays as a child, but as a mum, I have only experienced camping in wet Wales a few times, and it's not been that great to be honest....kids not very happy, not a lot of sleep, damp and cold - so am I looking at such a journey through rose-tinted glasses?

Thinking it'll be brilliant....warm weather, comfy beds, some home comforts, seeing amazing places....freedom and adventure :-) Really want to hear of some other peoples' experiences before we go much further with the planning, to see if it really is such a good idea!

So, anyone have any personal experiences they want to share about long-term family camper van trips, or know of any good blogs???

Thanks for any helps!
Hannah

Sounds like an amazing

Sounds like an amazing plan.

I couldn't find many blogs, but here are some

My advice would be
- Get the biggest vehicle you can afford or manage. Space will be a premium when you are all inside.
- Stick to the warmest weather you can. Like you saw, wet and cold is bad. Warm and outdoors is good.

Go for it

We are just getting back into campervanning after hiring an RV in the USA a couple of years ago. This was for 4 weeks which I don't suppose is long term but it was wonderful. Pick up in LA, then made our way up to Death Valley - in October, and then skirt round Vegas into the Vallet of Fire State Park and then into Utah to see the amazing canyons and to buy a Grateful Dead T-Shirt in Moab UT. Wonderful

We used to have a VW pop-top and we took it all over. But a word of advice: keep away from Spain. Our VW was never broken into in the UK, France, Germany or Austria but we went 3 times to Spain and it was broken into 3 times. The police refused to record any crime had been committed, that is how they keep the crime stats down. But in Spain any vehicle with a GB plate is vulnerable. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED

We stuck mainly to the UK and France. Wonderful places to visit in both countries and so very different.

Yeah gt for it girl!!!!

We are in the same scenario,

We are in the same scenario, only there are 7 of us, although we only require 3 internal berths, 4 want to camp awning or tent style, we wish to tour around scotland after our purchase and conversion, so i've joined this site looking for plenty of inspiration.

Camper vanning with children.

Hi, your trip sounds amazing, I can't wait till I have trained my daughter sufficiently to undertake a trip like that. I have lots of experience of camper vanning with my girl. We have a T25 we got when she was 1 and since then after loving it so much I have set up a camper van hire company. I've also driven through France and Spain to Morocco via Melia, but without a child. It was great but in all honesty I don't think I would go that far with such young children. It is a long way and bless them they do need to stop every hour and a half to stretch, go to the loo and walk about. I can get about 300 miles max a day from my daughter and this is slow, and I wouldn't want to do a few days in a row to get to where we need to go.
I'm a single parent of a two and a half year old and we do a lot of travelling and I am constantly making little adjustments to our travels so we can get on with having a great time. In fact I wrote a blog about this very subject on my occasions website

Good luck with the planning
