Potes

Potes is a small village with several restaurants and a few shops. Most of the shops sell souvenirs, rather than useful hiking equipment. There are several small supermarkets and a bank. You can book kayaking, rafting and mountain biking trips from places in town.

Campsites in Potes

There are several campsites in the area. Continue up the mountains after reaching Potes from the coast. You will see a sign on the right hand side of the road with the names and distances to the campsites.

La Virone – Recommended

Excellent campsite situated 800m from Potes. Excellent facilities include a swimming pool, bar & restaurant, games area, children’s play area, and beautiful service buildings which are perfectly fitting to the beautiful views. Moderately priced.

Andrin

Off season free camping is possible in Andrin.

Luanco

Luanco is a pleasant town with a pretty beach front. There is an internet cafe in town, and a Euroski supermarket on the approach.

Camping Banugues

Signposted from town. A basic campsite. Has a popular restaurant and bar, right by the beach. More orientated for the residents than visitors, who camp close to the road. One has to pay €0.50 for showers. Moderately priced. Open al year.

Playa de Verdicio

A beautiful area, with several lovely beaches, cafes and lots of parking. There is a urbanisation which has a security fence, and is closed to the public. However the bars and open to all. The views are great. Worth a visit, and a stop over. Great surfing here, as the beach picks up lots of swell.

Free camping at Playa de Verdicio

There are two areas to park, north and south of the urbanisation. Free camping is ok on the southern car park, with stunning views of the beach and hills. The lane is narrow, so no big vehicles. The Guarda Civil do visit at night, so best to stay a night or two at most.

Playa de Xago

Playa de Xago is a beautiful beach and surrounding area. Although the approach to the area is in an industrial estate, once you drive down the lane you are transported to another world of beaches, trees and wildlife. The beach is large, and is suitable for bathing and surfing in small swells, mainly summer. There are a few restaurants and bars close to the beach. There are many areas to park and picnic, and the area is popular with locals during the summer. Follow the signs from the industrial area, down the lane and to the first car park. Continue down the narrow lane and you’ll enter the shaded area.

Free camping at Playa de Xago

Off seasons free camping is fine at Playa de Xago. There are places to stop by the beach, further back by the shower block, or even further back under the trees.
