Winter in Europe
Many people escape to southern Europe during the winter months, to escape the cold of the north. In particual southern Portugal, southern Spain, and the south of France are popular winter destinations. The Algarve of Portugal remains the warmest place to stay.

Visas and Passports
Visa regulations are always subject to change, so check with the embassies before you start your journey. A brief guide is given below.
Anyone entering the EU or Morocco requires a passport that is valid for the entire duration of their stay. If your passport expires during, or soon after you intend your trip to end, renew it well before you leave home. If your passport does expire whilst you are away, contact your closest embassy immediately.

Schengen States and the Schengen Treaty
The Schengen treaty is an agreement between participating countries in Europe, that allows people and vechicles to cross borders without any checks. The participating countries do not have border controls with each other, and have a commoin visa policy. This makes travelling between the countries, regardless of your means of transport, very easy.

Living full time in a camper van or motorhome in Europe
Many people chose to live full time in a camper van or motorhome in Europe. Many sold their homes and possessions and now live their days in the warmer parts of the continent. Many planed on being away for the winter and have not yet returned home.
If you are thinking of doing the same you are sure to meet many other people for company.

There are lots of options in getting vehicles across the waters of Europe. If are starting in, or visiting the UK it is likely you will need to take a ferry across the English Channel, unless you use the Eurotunnel train (see below).

European Union (EU)
The EU is an economic, political and judicial collective of countries with shared goals and objectives. The EU initially consisted of Belgium, Germany, France, Italy, Luxembourg and the Netherlands. In 1973 Denmark, Ireland and the United Kingdom (UK) joined in 1973. The member nations have increased with the entry of Greece in 1981, Spain and Portugal in 1986, Austria, Finland and Sweden in 1995. In 2004 ten new countries joined from Eastern Europe. EU member countries have agreements and treaties covering security, law, residency and border controls.
