Cost to insure/tax a van?
Hiya - we're looking at getting a Renault Trafic panel van to convert into a camper. I'm just wondering about costs for insuring/taxing - are they considerably more than a car?
Many thanks
That's really helpful, thanks!
£200!!! You should get a heavier one. My LWB twinnie sprinter falls into the private hgv tax bracket and only costs £165 to tax! :)

How strange! Funny how the heavy vehicle should have a cheaper tax category.
Hi
We have 'almost' bought a ford transit van (2004), we plan to take a trip around Europe providing our career breaks get agreed, if they are agreed I will have lots more questions to post on here but for now, can you advise on the best breakdown insurance for travelling through Europe. I think we have got a good deal on insurance which is approx £300 which also covers us for 90 days in Europe (if you think this is high, again any recommendations on insurance companies would be very welcome).
Many thanks
£300 seems about right, giving 90 days in Europe. If you are going on a longer trip and need cover for trips longer than 90 days try www.campton.co.uk. They are a good broker.
ADAC I think offer the best European cover. They are a German company.

Thanks very much Darren.
Green Flag are always very good, perform very well abroad and are cheaper than the RAC &AA.
Thank you very much for such a prompt response! We will have a look now.

Not really.
My fairly big MWB Sprinter van costs £200 a year to tax, and £263 a year to insure.
